Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about LockTags

Q. What is a LockTag?

A.

LockTags are individually-numbered ‘stickers’ that you place on personal items that you wish to protect. The stickers are permanent-quality weather-resistant mylar, and they feature a permanent adhesive. You can place them on everyday items such as schoolbooks, sporting equipment, portable electronic devices, garden equipment – even higher-dollar items such as television sets, microwave ovens, cars, boats and more. Simply register your LockTag numbers on our web site, and the information is permanently stored in our system. Your items are registered

Q. How do LockTags help me get my stuff back?

A.

Most items are actually lost close to home: in the mall parking lot, at the local park, at school, at the gym, etc. In most cases, the finder is more than happy to return the item – but typically they don’t know how to find you! With LockTag, the finder has three important things:

a. The toll-free LockTag phone number.
b. The LockTag website address.
c. The unique LockTag number assigned to your item.

If they go to our website or call us, they are asked to provide three things:

a. The item’s LockTag Number.
b. Their name.
c. Their phone number.

When they do, you’ll receive an email within minutes informing you that the item has been found – and how to contact with the person who found it!
It’s simple, it’s fast, and it helps you get your stuff back.

Q. What if the finder calls you at night or on the weekend?

A.

If the finder calls us at night or on a weekend, we will email you the information on the next business day. Or, if you don’t have email, we will call you with the information within 24 hours or on the next business day. If they report the item on our website, we’ll send you an email immediately - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Q. What are the benefits of using LockTag?

A.

LockTags are a safe, simple – and confidential way to facilitate the return of your lost or stolen items. In today’s world, it’s not always practical to put your name and contact information on your personal items. For example…

  • A personal music player may be the size of a pack of gum – but have a value of more than $300! How can you put your name and phone number on that? LockTag is only 1” square – so it fits perfectly on the back!

  • A cell phone may cost you $250 or more – and if you lose it, the batteries may lose their charge so the finder can’t check your number. Put a LockTag sticker on the back or on the inside of the battery. It could save you a lot of time, trouble & money!

  • An aluminum baseball bat can cost upwards of $100 – but kids often leave them behind after practice. The person finding the bat – often another parent – wishes that they knew how to return it. With LockTag, they can report the item in seconds, and you can arrange to get the item right away.

  • A golf club can cost $100 - $150 - $200 or more – but have you ever left one on the green or in the rough? Now, the finder can return it to you quickly – so you don’t have to replace it!

  • A riding lawn mower can cost $1,500 - $2,000 or more – and if it’s stolen and recovered anywhere in the country – it can be linked back to you and returned!

The possibilities go on and on. LockTags are effective and easy to use on tens of thousands of everyday items. They can help you reclaim items that previously you would have given up as lost. Finally, there is a smart, sane and economical way to safeguard your personal property against loss – for just pennies a day! Get LockTags for all of your family’s personal items and enjoy an extra measure of protection and value every day!

Q. Are LockTags covered by any sort of guarantee?

A.

Yes – Absolutely! If you are ever less than 100% satisfied with your LockTags or our service to you, simply return your LockTags to us for a full and unconditional refund of your purchase price.

Q. Are LockTags long lasting?

A.

Yes. LockTags are printed on weatherproof mylar, with weather-resistant inks. They are coated to prevent fading due to sun, rain, wind, or the passing of time. We guarantee that they will be readable for a minimum of 10 full years. If at the end of 10 years they become illegible, simply provide proof of fading and we will replace them at no cost to you whatsoever!

Q. Am I required to disclose what I am protecting with my LockTags?

A.

No. Simply select “confidential” when registering your individual LockTag. When you click the “Register” button, the LockTag will become active on your account but no record will be kept of the nature of item it is protecting.

Q. Can the LockTags I purchased be registered under different accounts?

A.

Yes. You can give any number of your purchased LockTags to family or friends, and they can register them in their own account. For example, if you buy 50 LockTags and give 10 each to 5 friends, each person can create their own account for free and register the LockTags you gave them. Once they do, only THEY will be able to review their account information on their registered LockTags.

Q. Once I register my LockTags, are my items registered for life?

A.

No. The LockTag Personal Property Registration Service is an annual subscription program. When you register your LockTags, your items are registered and protected for one full year. After that time, you must renew your subscription to enjoy full access to your account.

Q. If my account is lapsed and someone files a report on one of my lost items, will I be notified?

A.

Yes. You will be notified, but in order to make contact with the reporting individual you will need to renew all of your LockTags for an additional year. The new activation period will begin on the first day that your account lapsed – even if that date has long passed.

Q. Will I be required to pay for expired time on a lapsed account?

A.

Yes. The LockTags you have placed on your personal items are working 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. We continue to monitor all activity on your items even while your account is lapsed. Your local police authorities will require access to this information in case your items are stolen and sold illegally. Our expense in maintaining your account and monitoring your numbers will continue even if you decide not to renew. Should you require access to that information at a later date, we will require you to pay for the service that we provided during that time period.

Q. Am I required to pay for the “reward” that you offer to individuals who report finding a lost or stolen item?

A.

No.  We pay for the reward that most claimants receive, especially in cases involving lower-value items such as tennis rackets, radios, cell phones, golf clubs, books, CDs, etc.  In cases of theft and/or higher value items such as laptop computers, boats, cars, etc., your insurance company may offer a significant cash reward for recovery of these items.  In these cases, LockTag retains 50% of the reward money for facilitating the return of the item, and the reporting individual receives the remaining 50%.

Q. Is a cash reward provided to individuals when they report a lost or stolen item?

A.

No. The “reward” that is offered to people who report finding an item, in most cases, is a package of consumer discounts and services. These are genuine benefits valued at more than $100, and they are provided to the reporting individual at no cost to them whatsoever.

Q. Do you pay the cost of returning my lost or stolen item after it is found and reported to you?

A.

No. We will simply notify you that your item has been found, and we will send you the contact information of the reporting individual. It will be up to you to contact the reporting individual and arrange for return of your item. In the case of recovery of stolen items by law enforcement officials, all discussions concerning those items will be between you and the law enforcement agency.

Q.
Do you guarantee that the person finding my lost or stolen item will return it to me, once I know who they are?

A.

No. We have no control over the individual who finds your lost or stolen item. Some people may want you to pay an exorbitant fee in order to retrieve your item. Or some people may just believe in “finder’s keepers / losers weepers” and decide that they will keep the item. Our system records the IP Address of all individuals who report finding an item – and we capture the caller ID number of any individual who calls our toll-free line to report finding an item. We will not pursue individuals who will not negotiate with you on the return of your lost item. If you wish to pursue the matter through your local law enforcement agency, we will be glad to provide any and all information that they require. However, due to privacy laws we cannot provide this personal information direct to consumers.

Q.
Do you provide any guarantee of satisfaction if the finder is unwilling to return my item, if the item is damaged upon return, or if the finder simply refuses to negotiate for its’ return?

A.

No. All arrangements for return of your items, as well as negotiations for finder rewards above and beyond those specified in our purchaser agreement, will be the sole responsibility of the registering party. LockTag, its parent company and its promoters make no claim as to the effectiveness or thoroughness of this program in facilitating the safe return of your registered items, or their condition if and when returned.

Q.
I want to find out how much my reward will be, BEFORE I tell you who I am or what I’ve found. Can I call you or email you to find this out?

A.

No.  The only way we can provide you with reward information is for you to report the item(s) that you have found, and how the owner of those items can contact you.  If you are considering keeping the item(s) for your own use, please bear in mind that local, federal and state laws may apply to your discovery of the item(s). You could be violating these laws by NOT reporting your discovery.  We will not be a party to any legal violations; we will only be involved in the legal, fair and just return of lost items.

Q.
If I decide to cancel my service, can I return my LockTags and get a refund on the unused portion of my coverage year?

A.

No. The service will remain in effect for 1 full year from your registration date. There are no refunds on the LockTags or the LockTag service.
